Michael Strahan, a former New York Giants star turned television personality,
found himself in hot water with Giants fans after a surprising moment during the FOX Super Bowl 2025 pregame show.
The ex-NFL defensive end, who spent his entire 15-year career with the Giants,
made waves when he waved a Philadelphia Eagles flag and wished them luck ahead of Super Bowl LIX.
Given Strahan’s deep-rooted ties to the Giants, his actions didn’t sit well with many of the team’s supporters—especially considering the Eagles’ rivalry with New York.
To make matters worse, the moment was instigated by none other than former Giants running back Saquon Barkley,
who had made the controversial move to Philadelphia in March 2024.
Strahan’s Reaction to Barkley’s Move
Saquon Barkley’s decision to leave the Giants for their divisional rivals was a tough pill to swallow for New York fans. The star running back, known for his explosive playmaking, quickly proved why his departure was such a loss for the Giants. During his first season with the Eagles, he posted 2,005 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, playing a key role in leading Philadelphia back to the Super Bowl alongside quarterback Jalen Hurts.
During the pregame coverage, Strahan sat down for an interview with Barkley and didn’t hold back his emotions about the running back’s switch to Philadelphia.
“I’m p—–,” Strahan admitted bluntly, clearly frustrated with Barkley’s departure. However, he quickly softened his stance, adding, “I’m p—– for that, but I’m happy for you.”
Barkley Encourages Strahan to Join Eagles Hype
During their conversation, Barkley acknowledged that joining the Eagles felt unusual at first, given his long-standing connection with the Giants.
“It felt weird, for sure,” Barkley admitted. “But now I got to do what’s best for my family. The pros for the Eagles outweighed everything. The only con about playing for the Philadelphia Eagles was that I’m a former Giant.”
It was at this moment that Barkley decided to stir the pot even further. Pulling out a Philadelphia Eagles flag, he playfully urged Strahan to take part in the team’s pregame excitement.
Strahan initially resisted, knowing full well how Giants fans would react to such a gesture. “You can’t make me do it. I might burn!” he joked, clearly aware of the controversy it would spark.
But after some encouragement from Barkley, Strahan gave in—waving the flag and expressing his respect for the former Giants star.
“For all you Giants fans out there, I’ve been around a lot of guys who left the Giants and gone to other places that I did not like, and I never liked them,” Strahan said. “But he’s such a special man. C’mon, we’re going to ‘Fly, Eagles, Fly’ with Saquon Barkley because I respect the brother, man, so much. And we don’t have a flag in New York.”
Strahan’s Joking Apology to Giants Fans
Knowing he had just committed a major betrayal in the eyes of Giants fans, Strahan tried to smooth things over with a humorous remark.
“Anyone who needs real estate in New York, I have to sell my house,” he quipped, implying that his actions may have permanently soured his relationship with the team’s loyal fanbase.
Giants Fans React to Strahan’s Flag-Waving
Unsurprisingly, Giants fans were not pleased with Strahan’s decision to support the Eagles, even if it was just for a moment. Many took to social media to voice their disappointment.
One fan posted, “Michael Strahan, you went too far.”
Another added, “Even franchise legends are clowning the Giants. They better dig deep and find some pride ASAP.”
Eagles Dominate in Super Bowl LIX
Whether or not Strahan’s brief show of support had any impact, the Philadelphia Eagles went on to deliver a commanding performance in Super Bowl LIX. The team dominated the Kansas City Chiefs with a 40-22 victory, securing their second-ever Lombardi Trophy in convincing fashion.
While Barkley’s individual performance in the game was modest—rushing for 57 yards at an average of 2.3 yards per carry—his team’s overall execution was nothing short of spectacular. By the time the Chiefs finally put points on the board, the Eagles had already racked up 34 points, sealing their championship win in emphatic fashion.
Strahan’s Legacy with the Giants
Despite the controversy, Strahan remains one of the most iconic players in Giants history. As a key member of the team’s defense for 15 seasons, he helped lead New York to a Super Bowl victory and was later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
However, his lighthearted moment with Barkley and the Eagles has certainly given Giants fans a reason to question his loyalty—at least in jest. Whether or not he actually needs to sell his house in New York remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Strahan’s flag-waving moment won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
