Sheinelle Jones from TODAY fueled speculation about leaving after suggesting she was being DISCRIMINATED AGAINST by her co-hosts: “They don’t treat me as if I matter…”

Today show viewers may have noticed Sheinelle Jones missing from her usual spot last week, but the beloved host has now set the record straight on why she was absent.

During the Monday, November 18 episode of Today, Sheinelle took a moment to explain where she had been and why she had taken a brief break from the show.

A Special Speaking Engagement

Sheinelle, 46, revealed that her absence on Friday was due to an inspiring engagement outside of Philadelphia.

She had the opportunity to speak at the Society of Professional Women, an event dedicated to empowering women in various professional fields.

“I wasn’t here Friday. I went right outside of Philadelphia to speak with the Society of Professional Women,” she shared during the broadcast.

“So many women from the Philadelphia area … but I stayed until the very end and talked to almost every single one of the women when it was over. I love that kind of stuff. Girl power!”

Sheinelle has always been a strong advocate for women’s empowerment, and her excitement about the event was evident. She values these opportunities to connect with and uplift women, something that aligns with her passion for mentorship and personal growth.

Balancing Work and Motherhood

Despite her busy schedule, Sheinelle wasted no time getting back to her responsibilities at home. After her speaking engagement, she immediately switched gears and embraced her role as a devoted mother.

“And then I rushed home and was a soccer mom,” she added.

Sheinelle shares three children—son Kayin and twins Uche and Clara—with her husband, Uche Ojeh. Despite her demanding career, she prioritizes spending quality time with her family and ensuring that her children feel valued and supported.

In a 2015 interview with Today.com, Sheinelle opened up about her parenting philosophy, emphasizing the importance of teamwork within her household.

“With all three of my children, I try to show them that they’re ALL a team, and they have to take care of each other,” she explained. “At the same time, I’m learning that they each like to know they’re special on their own. They will often come to me for individual affirmation and then head back into the ‘group’ ready to play as a team.”

Her ability to juggle her professional commitments while being an attentive mother continues to inspire fans who admire her dedication to both roles.

A Different Lineup on Today

Sheinelle wasn’t the only Today personality whose absence was noted last week. On Tuesday, November 19, viewers saw a slightly different lineup on the show. Sheinelle was back on air, but longtime hosts Al Roker and Dylan Dreyer were missing from the broadcast.

Filling in alongside Sheinelle and Craig Melvin was Today correspondent Savannah Sellers, who took a seat at the news desk while Al and Dylan were away. Craig, 45, explained their absences, noting that Al had the day off and Dylan was out on assignment at the factory responsible for making floats for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Craig introduced Savannah to the viewers in a fun, lighthearted way, saying, “As Sheinelle likes to say, we have a cousin joining the show.”

Savannah, 28, playfully embraced the moment, replying, “The official upgrade!”

Craig then joked, “You’ve been promoted to cousin.”

The easygoing banter highlighted the camaraderie that makes Today such a fan-favorite morning show.

Major Changes on Today

Sheinelle’s brief absence came amid significant changes within the Today team. Recently, it was announced that Craig Melvin would be replacing longtime anchor Hoda Kotb, who is set to leave the show in the new year.

Craig, who has been with NBC News since 2011, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.

“I am beyond excited and grateful,” he said during a recent episode. “I’ve enjoyed just a lifetime of blessings, and this is the latest in a long line of blessings.”

Even Al Roker, who appeared virtually, took a moment to congratulate Craig on his promotion.

“I’m so proud and so happy for [Craig] right now,” Al said. “[He is] so worthy of this. I almost don’t have the words.”

Meanwhile, Hoda Kotb, 60, has expressed her support for Craig stepping into her role, with sources revealing that she feels he was a great choice for the position.

“She couldn’t be happier about it,” an insider told Closer Weekly on November 14. “She had no say in the decision, but she thinks Craig was a good choice.”

While Hoda is excited for the next chapter in her life, the announcement of her replacement made her departure feel even more real.

“It’s bittersweet because she’s sad that this chapter in her life is coming to a close,” the source continued. “She’s not regretting her decision to leave—she’s still very excited about moving on—but Craig’s announcement just made it more real.”

Looking Ahead

With all these shifts happening on Today, viewers can expect to see some changes in the months ahead. However, one thing remains the same—Sheinelle Jones’ commitment to both her career and her family.

While her brief absence may have left some fans wondering where she was, her explanation only reaffirmed what many already knew: Sheinelle is a powerhouse both on and off the screen, balancing her responsibilities with grace, dedication, and an unwavering enthusiasm for everything she does.

Now back in her regular spot, Sheinelle continues to bring her signature energy to Today, keeping fans engaged and inspired with every broadcast.
