Sam Thompson was accused of being all talk and no action by his best friend Pete Wicks, who claimed that this was why Zara left him.

Sam Thompson has broken his silence for the first time about his recent split from Zara McDermott,

opening up about the emotional toll of the breakup during a heartfelt conversation on his podcast Staying Relevant with close friend Pete Wicks.

The reality star, who has gained widespread attention for his appearances on Made in Chelsea

shared intimate details of the relationship’s end and how he has been coping in the aftermath.

Thompson and McDermott had been one of the most talked-about couples in the UK reality TV scene, having been together for several years.

Their relationship had been through its fair share of ups and downs, but their split in late 2024 came as a shock to many fans who had hoped the pair would weather the storm.

While neither Thompson nor McDermott initially commented publicly on the breakup, Thompson’s candid discussion with Pete Wicks has offered new insight into what led to their separation and how he’s navigating life post-breakup.

During the podcast, Thompson revealed that the decision to part ways was a difficult one, admitting that the emotional burden of the split had been weighing heavily on him. “It’s not easy, especially when you’ve been with someone for a long time,” Thompson said, speaking openly about the heartbreak he experienced. “You think you know what the future holds, and then it all changes. It’s been tough, but I’ve been trying to take it one day at a time.”

Thompson acknowledged that his public life made the breakup even more challenging, with fans and the media constantly scrutinizing his every move. “It’s weird, because you’re going through something personal, but the whole world knows about it,” he explained. “It adds a layer of pressure that I wasn’t really prepared for. But I guess that’s the reality of being in the public eye.”

Wicks, who has been a close friend of Thompson for years, offered a supportive ear throughout the conversation, helping to create a safe space for Thompson to share his feelings. The two discussed the difficulties of dealing with the breakup while also maintaining their public personas and professional commitments. “It’s hard, mate,” Wicks said. “You’ve got to keep going, but it’s also okay to take a step back and process everything. It’s important to give yourself time to heal.”

Thompson also reflected on his growth during the relationship and after its end, emphasizing that he is focusing on self-improvement and rediscovering his own identity. “It’s been a time of reflection,” he shared. “I’ve learned a lot about myself through this process. Sometimes, you don’t realize how much you’ve changed or how much you’ve given to a relationship until it’s over. But now, I’m trying to take the positives from it and grow.”

While Thompson didn’t go into specifics about the reasons behind the breakup, he did hint at the challenges that come with being in the public eye, particularly when it comes to relationships. Both he and McDermott, who is also a well-known TV personality, have faced intense media scrutiny throughout their time together, and it seems the pressure eventually took its toll. “Being in the spotlight is hard on relationships,” Thompson confessed. “You’re constantly having to deal with people’s opinions, and sometimes, that just becomes too much.”

In the conversation, Thompson also expressed gratitude for the support he has received from his friends, family, and fans. “I’ve had a lot of people reach out to me, and that’s been really comforting,” he said. “It’s nice to know you’re not going through it alone. I’ve been leaning on my friends a lot, especially Pete.”

As for what’s next, Thompson remains focused on his career and personal growth, though he admitted that moving forward is a slow process. “I’m not rushing anything,” he said. “I’m just taking each day as it comes, figuring out what I want from life and what makes me happy.”

Thompson’s decision to open up on Staying Relevant marks a significant moment for the star, who is known for his sense of humor and lightheartedness but has also shown a more vulnerable side in recent times. The candid podcast episode provided fans with a deeper understanding of Thompson’s emotional journey following his split from McDermott, and many were quick to express their support for him in the comments section of the podcast.

As he continues to heal and move forward, Sam Thompson’s honesty and willingness to address the breakup head-on have garnered admiration from listeners, showing that even those in the public eye face difficult times and can find strength through vulnerability and the support of those closest to them.
