Kerry Katona has shared her thoughts on Netflix’s latest blockbuster reality series, Celebrity Bear Hunt,
and while she’s enjoying the show, she’s not entirely convinced that Holly Willoughby is the right fit for the hosting role.
The former This Morning presenter teamed up with survival expert Bear Grylls to put a group of celebrities
including a Spice Girl and a supermodel—through extreme challenges in the Costa Rican jungle.
However, former Atomic Kitten singer Kerry, 43, expressed her reservations about Holly’s suitability for such a rugged and intense environment.
Speaking to OK! Magazine, she admitted that although she likes the series, she feels Holly might be a bit out of place in such an extreme setting.
Kerry Questions Holly’s Fit for the Jungle
Kerry praised the show’s concept and cast, saying, “I’ve started watching Celebrity Bear Hunt, and I’m really enjoying it. I love Una Healy and Steph McGovern. They’re amazing, and I know them both well. I’d really like for Steph to win—she’s such a lovely person.”
However, when it came to Holly’s role, Kerry wasn’t so sure. “While I think the cast is good, I’m not sure about Holly Willoughby as the host. She feels a little out of place in the jungle with Bear Grylls,” she explained. “I’ve got nothing against Holly because she’s a great presenter, but I just think it’s a strange job for her.”
Kerry pointed out that while Holly has some experience in adventure-based television—having stepped in as a co-host on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2018—she is better known for more polished, glamorous productions like Dancing on Ice and her long-running tenure on This Morning.
“She seems more polished and more suited for daytime TV rather than rough and ready for the jungle,” Kerry added.
Holly Willoughby’s Transition from Daytime to Survival TV
Holly’s involvement in Celebrity Bear Hunt marks a significant departure from the cozy morning television environment she dominated for years. Known for her warm and glamorous on-screen presence, she has built a career in presenting light entertainment and lifestyle programs.
While her previous stint on I’m A Celeb proved she could adapt to more adventurous settings, Celebrity Bear Hunt takes things to an entirely new level, with contestants facing extreme survival challenges.
Even Holly herself seemed to acknowledge the challenge of stepping into this new genre. Speaking to Yahoo about the potential for a second season, she remained cautious, saying, “We absolutely love everything about the show, doing the show, and I think right now we’re just focusing on this one. We’ve unleashed it now. Let’s see what people make of it—one step at a time, right?”
Who Took on the Challenge?
The first season of Celebrity Bear Hunt featured a star-studded lineup, including Spice Girl Mel B, Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas, model Lottie Moss, The Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas, and tennis legend Boris Becker.
In the end, it was rapper and TV personality Big Zuu who emerged victorious, proving himself to be the toughest competitor.
Following his win, Big Zuu—whose real name is Zuhair Hassan—shared how much the experience meant to him. He even revealed that he planned to keep a piece of climbing equipment from the show as a memento, saying, “I’m going to hang it up in my house with the carabiner that I got as my final tool. So, it might not mean a lot to people when they walk into my house, but it will mean a lot to me.”
Kerry’s Final Thoughts on the Show
While Kerry remains unsure about Holly’s place in the jungle, she admitted she would love to see what goes on behind the scenes.
“I’d love to know what the production is like and what it’s like filming the show. I really do wonder if it’s as tough as it looks. I’d love to give it a go and find out,” she said.
Whether or not Holly Willoughby will return for a second season remains to be seen, but her transition from daytime TV to the extreme survival world of Celebrity Bear Hunt is certainly sparking plenty of discussion.
