John Barrowman Launches Fiery Attack on ITV Amid Gino D’Acampo ‘Inappropriate’ Behaviour Saga: ‘They Sexualised Him!’
John Barrowman has come out in strong defense of Gino D’Acampo, criticizing ITV for what he claims was their role in “sexualizing” the celebrity chef.
D’Acampo, who has been accused of inappropriate behavior by multiple individuals over a 12-year period, has firmly denied all allegations.
Barrowman Blames ITV for Cultivating D’Acampo’s Persona
The allegations against D’Acampo first emerged following an ITV News investigation,
which uncovered claims that This Morning staff had raised concerns about his behavior more than a decade ago.
Reports have since suggested that ITV is under increasing scrutiny regarding how it handled these concerns at the time.
In response to the scandal, Barrowman, who has faced his own career challenges following past allegations of inappropriate conduct, lashed out at ITV. He argued that the network actively encouraged D’Acampo to lean into his “cheeky” and “naughty” persona, only to later turn against him.
Speaking to The Mirror, Barrowman expressed frustration over what he sees as hypocrisy in the entertainment industry.
“No, you won’t see me. Nothing lies ahead for me because of all the c**p that was said about me, which is not true. It’s the same with Gino D’Acampo at the moment,” he stated.
Barrowman pointed to instances where production teams allegedly pushed D’Acampo to act in a provocative manner on screen.
“For example, there’s that show where he’s cooking wearing nothing but an apron. Now, he didn’t just decide to do that—production asked him to. They were the ones sexualizing him,” he claimed.
He further argued that TV executives encouraged this type of humor, only to later distance themselves from it when public sentiment shifted.
“It’s the same thing that happened to me. Producers would set up a situation, make you do things for laughs, and then years later, pretend they had nothing to do with it,” he added.
ITV Under Pressure Over D’Acampo Allegations
While Barrowman has defended D’Acampo, ITV has found itself in the hot seat. Reports indicate that the broadcaster is under pressure to explain why the allegations against D’Acampo were not addressed earlier.
According to The Sun, ITV executives are being questioned about whether they ignored or overlooked previous complaints, allowing inappropriate behavior to persist unchecked.
D’Acampo, for his part, has remained steadfast in his denial.
“I take such matters extremely seriously,” he said in a statement through his legal team. “The suggestion that I have acted in an improper way is deeply upsetting. I am a father, a husband, and have worked with over 1,500 people on around 80 productions throughout my career, which I have been so proud of.”
Despite his strong denial, the scandal has significantly impacted his career. He has been dropped from ITV projects, including his role as host of Family Fortunes, and industry figures have publicly distanced themselves from him.
Industry Reactions: Support and Criticism
While Barrowman has defended D’Acampo, other celebrities have taken a different stance.
Former Coronation Street actress Vicky Entwistle voiced her concerns on X (formerly Twitter), claiming that ITV profited off D’Acampo’s personality for years before suddenly turning against him.
“I don’t know this man personally, therefore have no reason to stick my neck out in his defense,” she wrote. “BUT!!! ITV played that man for all he was worth… cheeky, naughty, foreign, hilarious!!! It all fitted in 10 years ago… now with a new WOKE agenda they crucify him?!?!”
Meanwhile, TV presenter and author Richard Osman took a more critical view on his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment. He argued that such controversies rarely emerge from isolated incidents.
“People do not lose their jobs because they said a couple of things a couple of times. It’s a pattern of behavior that has upset a number of people over a number of years,” Osman explained.
“There has to be a whole series of things that happen—it has to go on long enough and for it to be tiresome enough.”
What’s Next for D’Acampo?
As of now, D’Acampo remains out of the public eye, and it is unclear whether he will make a formal response beyond his initial denial. ITV has yet to comment further on Barrowman’s claims about their role in shaping D’Acampo’s public persona.
This latest chapter in the ongoing scandal highlights a broader conversation about accountability in the entertainment industry—both for individuals accused of misconduct and for the networks that promoted their on-screen personas. Whether D’Acampo will be able to recover his career remains to be seen, but for now, the debate over ITV’s responsibility continues to rage on.
