ITV is gearing up to bring back the hit reality series I’m A Celebrity… All Stars for another star-studded season in South Africa.
Following the success of its 2023 edition, the network is set to revive the special,
with iconic hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly returning to guide a fresh batch of celebrity contestants through the challenges of jungle life.
According to sources close to the production, the decision to bring back All Stars was an easy one.
“It did well last time, and while they can’t do it annually, they wanted to do another,” an insider revealed.
While the full celebrity lineup has yet to be announced, ITV is expected to begin its search for participants soon.
The Return to South Africa
The upcoming season will once again be filmed in the stunning but rugged surroundings of Kruger National Park, South Africa, maintaining the unique format of the first All Stars edition. The 2023 special, which aired from April 24 to May 12, saw past contestants return for another shot at jungle glory. The format differs from the original I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in a few key ways.
Unlike the Australian-based version, where the public votes for contestants to take on the infamous Bushtucker Trials, All Stars follows a different approach. Instead, the celebrities compete against each other in intense challenges, with eliminations decided through trials rather than viewer votes. The ultimate goal is to be crowned a ‘Legend’ rather than a Jungle King or Queen.
Star-Studded First Season
The previous All Stars season featured a cast of fan-favorite contestants, including boxing champion Amir Khan, Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan, television presenter Carol Vorderman, and Olympic javelin thrower Fatima Whitbread. The season concluded with I’m A Celebrity season six runner-up Myleene Klass emerging victorious after beating Britain’s Got Talent presenter Jordan Banjo in the final survival trial.
With the success of its first run, ITV is looking to assemble another lineup of memorable personalities for the new season. Given the format’s popularity, fans can expect to see familiar faces from past seasons battle it out in the unforgiving South African wilderness.
A Winning Formula
The I’m A Celebrity… South Africa special proved to be a ratings hit for ITV, attracting an average of 5.5 million viewers per episode. While this was slightly lower than the standard I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!—which drew around seven million viewers—it was still considered a strong performance. The format was praised for its high-stakes eliminations and intense head-to-head trials, making it a refreshing twist on the long-running series.
In addition to the format changes, the South African camp itself was notably larger and more challenging than its Australian counterpart. Spanning six times the size of the traditional jungle setup, the camp provided a tougher, more physically demanding experience for the contestants.
Coleen Rooney’s I’m A Celebrity Experience
The return of All Stars comes as I’m A Celebrity 2024 finalist Coleen Rooney reflected on her time in the jungle. The WAG and television personality finished as runner-up to McFly’s Danny Jones, proving herself to be a resilient and adaptable contestant.
Despite her glamorous lifestyle, Coleen shared that she had no trouble adjusting to the jungle’s harsh conditions. “I have got luxuries in life, but I’m no princess,” she revealed. “I think my campmates were surprised that I wasn’t fazed by living outside.”
Coleen credited her down-to-earth background for helping her cope with the experience. “I might not have camped that much, but I used to clean the apartments at a Pontins holiday park when I was younger,” she said. “Going to the dunny [camp toilet] doesn’t bother me. I’ve gone behind a tree before. I don’t mind getting my hands dirty.”
She also revealed that taking on chores in camp came naturally to her, as she is used to looking after her four sons. “It’s just my daily life to pick up after people and get on with it,” she explained. “If I don’t do it myself, it mightn’t get done.”
Excitement Builds for All Stars Return
As ITV prepares to bring back I’m A Celebrity… All Stars, anticipation is growing over which former contestants will be invited back for another shot at jungle glory. With the success of the previous edition and the continued popularity of the franchise, this new season is expected to deliver more drama, tougher trials, and unforgettable moments.
With Ant and Dec at the helm once again, fans can look forward to another thrilling adventure when I’m A Celebrity… All Stars returns later this year.
