In the now-deleted Instagram post from February 3, Amanda was seen wearing a boiler suit and holding an electric drill, 

which was part of a promotional video for her homeware collection. 

While the post seemed harmless and consistent with her persona as a DIY enthusiast, 

it quickly led to a clash with the BBC due to strict guidelines that prohibit talent from endorsing products in a manner that mimics their on-screen roles.

The BBC has a clear policy that talent, including actors and presenters, cannot use their roles on the network to promote products or brands that align with their on-air persona. Specifically, the regulations state that individuals involved in BBC programming should avoid participating in promotional work that replicates or mimics their roles in these productions. By showcasing her DIY skills and attire from Amanda and Alan’s Spanish Job in the QVC advertisement, Amanda inadvertently breached this rule.

Following the post, a BBC spokesperson issued a statement confirming that Amanda had removed the video and had been reminded of her responsibilities as a BBC presenter, particularly when using social media. The spokesperson commented, “Amanda has removed her post and has been reminded of her responsibilities as a BBC presenter when using social media.”

This controversy is not the first time a BBC personality has been involved in a breach of the network’s advertising guidelines. In May 2021, Nick Knowles, known for hosting DIY SOS, found himself in hot water after appearing in a commercial for Shreddies cereal while wearing his signature hard hat and tool belt. His appearance in the ad was seen as mimicking his role on the BBC show, which led to a similar reprimand from the network.
