Pete Wicks appeared to take a subtle swipe at his ex-girlfriend Maura Higgins following her headline-making kiss with McFly star Danny Jones at the BRIT Awards afterparty.
The former TOWIE star, 37, and the Love Island alum, 34, had reportedly parted ways after a series of disagreements.
However, just days later, Maura found herself at the center of attention after sharing what was described
as a “drunken kiss” with Danny, who has been married to his wife Georgia for over a decade.
Pete’s Blunt Remarks on His Podcast
Seemingly addressing the situation indirectly, Pete made his feelings about Love Island very clear on his Staying Relevant podcast.
When asked by a fan what he would eliminate from the world if given the chance, Pete responded without hesitation, saying he would “banish Love Island from the world.” His co-host Sam Thompson laughed at the remark and called it “so aggressive.” However, Pete doubled down on his statement, explaining, “It takes over everything; that’s all anyone talks about for f**king three months of the year.”
He went on to complain about how difficult it was to have conversations with people who reference the show. Sam teased, “Let’s be honest, I can’t imagine you hanging out with people who say, ‘When’s the next episode of Love Island?’” Pete replied, “No, but even when I walk through the office… just no.”
While Pete never mentioned Maura directly, many fans speculated that his remarks were aimed at his ex, especially given the timing of the comments. Maura rose to fame on the fifth season of the ITV dating show in 2019, while Sam’s former girlfriend, Zara McDermott, also starred in the series a year earlier.
Maura and Danny’s Night at the BRITs Afterparty
On Saturday night, Maura and Danny were among the many stars who attended Universal Music’s exclusive BRITs afterparty at 180 Strand. Earlier in the evening, they had been seated at separate tables during the BRIT Awards at the O2 Arena. However, at the afterparty, the two were spotted sharing a table alongside their I’m A Celebrity co-star Oti Mabuse.
In footage reportedly taken around 3 a.m., Maura and Danny were seen standing close together in the foyer of the venue. They appeared to be engaged in an intimate conversation before Danny leaned in and appeared to give Maura a quick peck.
Eyewitnesses described the moment as a “brief, drunken kiss.” One onlooker shared, “Danny and Maura seemed to be having a great time together. They were laughing and talking for ages.” Another source suggested that Danny was offering Maura advice and at one point even put his arm around her shoulder.
Despite the closeness between them, Maura ultimately left the party alone in a taxi, while Danny exited as part of a larger group, which included his McFly bandmate Tom Fletcher.
Pete’s BRITs Hangover and Radio Show Struggles
While Maura’s night at the BRITs made headlines for her interaction with Danny, Pete also had a wild evening of his own. On Sunday morning, he launched his new KISS FM radio show, The Sunday Roast, alongside Olivia Attwood—though he admitted he was suffering from a severe hangover from the night before.
Speaking about the experience on This Morning on Monday, Pete confessed, “We made it through. I think that’s the biggest surprise to the bosses and us.” Olivia chimed in, admitting, “It was touch and go,” while their fitness coach agreed, saying, “We hit the wall about an hour in.”
Cat Deeley, who was hosting the segment, pointed out that while the duo started off “full of beans,” their hangover became increasingly evident as the show progressed. Olivia later revealed that at one point, she even laid down on the studio floor due to exhaustion.
Reflecting on their BRITs experience, Olivia admitted, “We went to the BRITs to try and get gossip to obviously then tell the listeners on the show, but then we couldn’t really remember much of what happened, so that kind of negated that mission.”
What’s Next for Maura and Pete?
Neither Maura nor Pete has publicly addressed their split in detail, and Pete refrained from directly commenting on her recent interaction with Danny. However, his remarks about Love Island have fueled speculation that there may still be lingering tension between the former couple.
Meanwhile, Danny has remained tight-lipped about the situation. He has been married to Georgia since 2014, and the couple shares a six-year-old son, Cooper. Representatives for both Maura and Danny have yet to comment on the viral video.
With Pete seemingly moving on with new projects, including his radio show, and Maura continuing to enjoy the social scene, it remains to be seen whether their paths will cross again—or if Pete’s subtle digs will continue in the weeks to come.
