Whoopi Goldberg is one of the most recognizable faces on daytime television, having been a co-host on The View since 2007.
However, during a recent episode, the EGOT-winning actress revealed that if she had more financial security, she wouldn’t still be sitting at the table.
Goldberg Opens Up About Financial Realities
During Tuesday’s episode of The View, the panel discussed a recent Instagram post
by New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, in which she engaged with her followers about their voting decisions.
The conversation took a broader turn when co-host Sara Haines shared that she had voted for Kamala Harris
but remained open to understanding why some Americans supported Donald Trump, particularly those who believed he could help the working class.
Goldberg, 69, then chimed in, expressing her support for working families and acknowledging the financial difficulties many people face. She went on to admit that, despite her successful career, she too works out of necessity.
“I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me, too. I work for a living,” she stated. “If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, okay? So, I’m a working person, you know?”
The Sister Act star elaborated, explaining that her financial responsibilities extend beyond herself. “My kid has to feed her family. My great-granddaughter has to be fed by her family,” she continued. “I know it’s hard out there.”
Goldberg’s Political Commentary Sparks Reaction
As the conversation continued, Goldberg expressed her appreciation for Ocasio-Cortez’s approach to engaging with voters, while also emphasizing the broader consequences of political decisions.
“We talk to people all the time who say, ‘This is what’s bothering me.’ But the thing that’s bothering everybody should not be the thing that puts 85 percent of other people in danger,” she said, hinting at concerns about political policies and their effects on everyday Americans.
Goldberg has never shied away from sharing her views on politics, particularly regarding former President Donald Trump. Over the years, she has been one of his most vocal critics on The View, and her remarks have often made headlines.
Following Trump’s 2024 reelection campaign, Goldberg and her co-hosts remained openly critical of his policies and rhetoric. Their discussions about him have not gone unnoticed, with Trump himself addressing The View and its panelists during a rally in Pennsylvania last month.
Trump Responds to Goldberg and The View
At the rally, Trump fired back at The View’s ongoing criticism, calling the show’s hosts “really dumb people.” He then specifically singled out Goldberg, referring to her as a “demented” and “disgusting” person.
Goldberg, known for her quick wit and candid responses, did not hold back when addressing Trump’s comments on air.
“I have always been filthy, and you knew that when you hired me,” she said to cheers from the audience. She then reminded Trump of their past professional interactions, highlighting his history as a businessman in the entertainment world.
“I headlined, babe, at your casino, which I might’ve continued to play had you not run it into the ground,” Goldberg remarked. “How dumb are you? You hired me four times.”
Would Goldberg Really Leave The View?
Goldberg’s comments about leaving The View if she had more money were said in a candid and somewhat humorous manner, but they highlight a relatable reality—even celebrities who have reached massive success still have financial responsibilities.
Despite her claim, Goldberg has remained a key part of the talk show for nearly two decades. Over the years, she has expressed frustrations about the job at times but has also made it clear that she values the platform she has to discuss important issues.
For now, it seems The View fans can expect Goldberg to remain in her seat, at least until she feels she has the financial freedom to step away. Whether or not that day comes anytime soon remains to be seen.
