Katie Price has never been one to shy away from controversy, and her driving history is no exception.
After facing six driving bans over the years, the reality TV star has finally returned to the road.
In a candid discussion on her podcast, The Katie Price Show, the 46-year-old mother of five revealed the jaw-dropping cost of insuring her vehicle after her latest ban was lifted.
The Long Road Back to Driving
Katie has been vocal about her struggles with regaining her driving privileges.
She was originally banned from driving in December 2021 following a serious crash in Horsham, where she was caught driving under the influence.
Despite being due to regain her licence in 2023, she claimed bureaucratic delays with the DVLA prevented her from getting back behind the wheel until now.
During her recent podcast episode, Katie expressed her excitement about driving again, saying:
“New year, new start—manifesting. Already good stuff has happened. Jobs are on the way, but the most important thing is me getting back to driving.”
For Katie, having her independence back means more than just getting from point A to B—it’s a major milestone in turning her life around after years of legal and financial struggles.
The Cost of Insurance After Multiple Bans
Given her troubled driving record, Katie initially faced a staggering insurance quote that would have made it nearly impossible for her to afford a car. She revealed:
“I got my licence back, but I couldn’t get insured on any of the cars—it was going to cost me £150,000 a year, £7,000 a month! Who’s going to pay that? That’s ridiculous!”
With traditional insurance proving too costly, Katie explored other options, including renting a car, which she found would cost her around £1,600 per month. However, in a surprising turn of events, she managed to secure an insurance policy for a fraction of what she was initially quoted.
“I thought, ‘Let’s just see if I can get insured on my car,’ and it went through. I’ve now got normal insurance for £800 a year—fully comp—and I’m so happy!”
Given her history of driving offences, securing such a low rate is unexpected, but Katie is relieved to be legally back on the road without breaking the bank.
A Fresh Start on the Road
Katie is embracing a newfound sense of responsibility when it comes to driving, emphasizing her commitment to obeying traffic laws. She shared how her kids have noticed her cautious driving habits:
“If I’m in the car with the kids, I’m like, ‘I’m sorry, kids, if I’m driving slow.’ If I’m in a 30, I set it at 30. Or on the motorway, I set it at 70.”
Her children, rather than being frustrated, have encouraged her newfound careful approach.
“They’re like, ‘No, mum. It’s good, it’s good that you’re sensible. No, no, we love this, mum.’”
Katie acknowledged that she has changed a lot over the years and is determined to leave her reckless past behind.
“I think the past is the past, the future is the future, and I’ll continue on that. I’m glad last year is done. Lots of good things are happening.”
Legal Battles and Financial Troubles
While regaining her licence is a step in the right direction, Katie is still dealing with the fallout of her past mistakes. Her most recent driving ban was not her first, and legal troubles have continued to follow her.
In early 2024, she was charged with driving without insurance and a valid licence, further complicating her attempts to return to the road.
On top of her legal woes, Katie has also faced financial struggles, being declared bankrupt for the second time in March 2023. During a court hearing, it was revealed that she owed a staggering £761,194.05 to HMRC.
Despite these challenges, Katie is optimistic about the future. Under UK law, individuals who comply with their bankruptcy terms are typically discharged after 12 months. Her first bankruptcy ended in November 2024, and her second is expected to conclude by March 2025.
What’s Next for Katie?
With her legal and financial troubles still looming, Katie remains focused on rebuilding her life. Regaining her ability to drive is a huge milestone, giving her the independence she has long been missing.
Whether she can stay out of trouble on the road remains to be seen, but for now, she is celebrating her return behind the wheel—and doing so at a surprisingly affordable insurance rate.
