Robbie Williams has confessed that his long-running joke about allegedly sleeping with most of the Spice Girls didn’t sit well with David Beckham. 

The former Take That star has often made lighthearted remarks about his connections with the iconic girl group, 

but he now acknowledges that his quip may have ruffled some feathers—particularly with Victoria Beckham’s husband.

During a candid chat on SiriusXM, Robbie reflected on a joke he used to tell during his live performances. 

The singer, now 50, would often say, “Ladies and gentlemen, I feel very fortunate. I’m one of the only people on the planet that’s been in Take That and four out of five of the Spice Girls.”

 While the line always got a laugh, he now realizes that it didn’t sit well with certain people.

Regretting the Quip—but Not Enough to Stop

Robbie admitted that the joke wasn’t actually true but kept it in his routine because of how well it landed with audiences. “It is a good line, but it upset all husbands, and it’s not true,” he clarified. “I’m sorry, but it’s still funny.”

However, the Angels singer recently bumped into David Beckham in New York and was reminded of the impact of his words. “I know he’s heard that line, and I know he wasn’t happy about it,” Robbie revealed. As a self-proclaimed football fanatic and lifelong admirer of the legendary England captain, the realization that he had offended Beckham was particularly painful. “It destroys a bit of my soccer-loving soul because I adore him. So for me to think that I’ve upset him or offended him in any way, I feel bad,” he admitted.

Despite regretting any unintended offense, Robbie insisted that his comedic instincts sometimes get the better of him. “But I’ve got to do my jokes,” he added with a smirk.

The Truth Behind the Spice Girls Rumors

While Robbie has been romantically linked to Spice Girls members Mel B and Geri Horner in the past, he has played down the extent of those relationships. “I dunno if ‘dated’ is what I did,” he cryptically remarked.

The joke even found its way into his upcoming biopic, Better Man, despite Robbie’s efforts to leave it in the past. “Michael Gracey [the director] made me keep it in,” he said, suggesting that while he wanted to move on from the remark, it was too embedded in his public persona to remove. “Out of respect to the girls, I’ve been trying to not say it,” he added.
