Al Roker was noticeably absent from NBC’s Today show on Tuesday, February 11, as he took time off to grieve the passing of his ex-wife, Alice Bell. 

The former television producer, who was 77 years old, passed away recently, with her death announced via Instagram on Monday, February 10.

The heartbreaking news was shared by Roker and Bell’s daughter, Courtney Roker Laga, who posted a touching tribute to her mother. 

“She was my mother, my heart, and the most loving grandmother to Sky,” Laga wrote in her Instagram post. 

“I was with her for her last breath, and I will carry her love with me always.” 

Accompanying her words were three poignant images: one from Laga’s childhood with her mother and two more recent snapshots of Bell spending time with her granddaughter, Sky. 

In the recent photos, Bell appears to be wearing a nasal cannula, suggesting she may have had health concerns that required oxygen support.

Alice Bell and Al Roker were married for a decade, tying the knot in 1984 before their divorce in 1994. During their marriage, the couple adopted their daughter, Courtney, in 1987. At the time, both Roker and Bell were making strides in their broadcasting careers at WNBC in New York City. Bell served as a producer for the station’s Live at Five newscast, while Roker worked as a weatherman.
