VIDEO: Sir Rod Stewart faces backlash for IRRESPONSIBLE drinking on live TV.

Sir Rod Stewart delivered a highly entertaining pre-match interview ahead of Celtic’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich,

leaving both pundits and fans in fits of laughter. The 80-year-old rock legend, who is well known for his passionate support of the Scottish club,

was in high spirits during his appearance on TNT Sports, openly admitting he had enjoyed “a couple of drinks” before going on air.

Rod’s Hilarious Outbursts on Live TV

As the stadium buzzed with excitement and the 60,000-strong crowd chanted in the background,

Sir Rod sat down with former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel for a lively conversation.

However, the music icon wasted no time in taking control of the moment, playfully telling the boisterous crowd to “shut up” mid-interview. Peter, clearly amused, struggled to contain his laughter.

But the lighthearted chaos didn’t stop there. As the interview continued, Sir Rod made a series of amusing slip-ups, referring to Schmeichel as legendary England goalkeeper Gordon Banks and comically renaming Micah Richards as Big Knees instead of his usual nickname, Big Meeks. His cheeky behavior left the TNT Sports panel, including Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards, Thierry Henry, and Kate Scott, in stitches.

When asked how he was feeling ahead of the match, Rod made no effort to hide his pre-game celebrations, cheekily admitting, “I’ve had a couple.” His response sent Peter Schmeichel into a fit of laughter before Rod jokingly added, “You better get me off the air now. I’m embarrassing myself.”

Rod’s Love for Celtic Shines Through

Despite his playful antics, Rod took a moment to express his unwavering love for Celtic. When Jamie Carragher asked whether he thought the club could pull off a victory, Rod enthusiastically responded, “Yeah, it could be a big night… Whatever happens, I’m so proud of this club, and I’m proud to be interviewed by Gordon Banks!”—another mistaken reference to Schmeichel, which only added to the amusement.

During another segment, presenter Emma Dodds asked if he was enjoying his day, to which Rod grinned and admitted, “It’s been wonderful. I’ve had a couple of drinks, as you can probably see. Wahey!” He went on to declare, “Celtic is the love of my life—apart from my wife and children. As long as we stay in the competition, as long as we don’t get humped tonight.”

Before the interview wrapped up, Rod couldn’t resist joining in with the Celtic fans, dancing along to their chants before launching into an impromptu performance of Maggie May alongside Jamie Carragher.

Social Media Reacts to Rod’s Wild TV Moment

Rod’s hilarious interview quickly became the talk of social media, with fans sharing their reactions online. One Rangers supporter begrudgingly admitted, “I’m not Rod’s biggest fan for obvious reasons, but he was pretty funny there.” Another viewer praised him, tweeting, “Top man Rod.”

Other reactions included:

“Inject this interview into my veins. So good.”

“This is one of the greatest pre-game interviews in Champions League history.”

“Drunk Rod Stewart on the CBS broadcast—this is the best sports coverage on Earth.”

Rod’s ability to entertain, even when slightly tipsy, was widely celebrated, with fans calling it one of the most memorable football interviews in recent history.

Rod’s History of Drunken Football TV Moments

This isn’t the first time Sir Rod has brought some alcohol-fueled fun to a football broadcast. Back in 2017, he was invited to help conduct the Scottish League Cup draw alongside former Celtic defender Alan Stubbs.

Recalling the moment in a 2022 interview with FourFourTwo, Rod admitted he had been drinking before going on air: “I’d had a couple of bevvies, and Sky asked me if I’d like to do [the draw]. I said, ‘Listen, I’ve had a couple of drinks,’ and they said it was fine.”

Never one to take things too seriously, Rod embraced the situation with his signature humor: “I’m an ad-lib guy and, lo and behold, I just p**** about a bit.”* His playful approach made the segment an instant classic among football fans.

Rod’s Unbreakable Bond with Celtic

Rod Stewart’s passion for Celtic has never wavered. He is regularly seen cheering from the stands, often accompanied by his family, and has spoken about his deep emotional connection to the club. Despite his age, the music legend remains as enthusiastic as ever when it comes to supporting his beloved team.

His latest TV appearance may have been chaotic, but it was another unforgettable moment in his long history of football fandom. Whether Celtic won or lost that night, one thing is certain—Sir Rod Stewart once again stole the show.
